| Where were you born? |
Tulsa, OK |
| Where did you live before coming to our area? |
I grew up in OK, then Glenwood Springs for tech School and recently in Gunnison. |
| Why are you interested in animals? |
I need their unconditional love and trust. I grew up with a house full of animals from hamsters to dogs. Since I was a small child I knew I wanted to work with animals. |
| What are your favorite animals to work on? |
Dogs! I also love orphaned animals, chickens and rodents. |
| Do you have any amazing or funny stories to tell about working with animals? |
I raised a litter of orphaned kittens that all developed ring worm. What a mess it was until I finally got it all cleared up! I have raised orphaned birds and saved Dr Silver’s chicken that was attacked by a fox. For me, every day, working with animals, its incredible how they will always do something amazing or funny! |
| Why did you become a veterinarian nurse? |
I like being with the animals and thought it would be a nice job while I slowly finish my Bachelor’s degree and then go to veterinary (or maybe medical school). |
| What are your favorite things about being a veterinary nurse? |
The pets and clients. I like that our day is never the same, you never know what crazy cats and dogs will do next. |
| What are your favorite things about working at Boulders Natural Animal? |
I love that we resolve issues that other vets cannot and that we use unconventional treatments. I love my co-workers! |
| Tell us about your pets and your family. |
One of my pets is an amazing dog named “Ripple”, 10 years old, I got him when I was working at the Tulsa SPCA. My other dog is a Toy Poodle, 4 years of age, who is blind and has a great sense of humor! She was given up for adoption when she had pneumonia, and I nursed her back to a healthier place. I also have one very LARGE cat who has feline Immunodeficiency virus (FIV), but is doing pretty well. Just the typical rescue-type pets that always seem to “find” veterinary techs. Like most veterinary techs I have a huge soft spot when it comes to pets that are in need of help. |
| Do you have any hobbies? |
Anything in the water! Swimming and boating. I also love to bike, and am an avid bird watcher. I have a passion for microbrews, and consider myself quite the connoisseur! Boulder, and Colorado in general are great for microbrew exploring. |
| What sports do you like? |
I love Basketball and Ballet (I studied ballet for years!); Golf (if I have to….); Croquets, Beer Pong, Monopoly. |
| What do you want people to know about you that is really really cool? |
I set off metal detectors! I have 4 pins, a plate and lots of metal suture that holds on my triceps and several ligaments of my arm. |
| Did you go to tech school? If so where and are you certified? |
I graduated from Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs, Colorado in 2003 and received my certification then. I am always interested in taking continuing education classes and through those outside classes and just reading about everything I can, I am constantly improving my understanding of every aspect of veterinary medicine so as to make me the best possible tech I can be. I feel that I already do a really great job, and (with all due modesty) consider myself, an awesome tech! |
| What are your goals in life? |
To become a veterinarian, have a big family, and live on an island. |
