Dental Cleaning is an important part of your animal’s veterinary care. Experts in the veterinary field have indicated that dental disease can lead to other more serious problems, such as heart disease, kidney disease, as well as lung and liver disease. Organ deterioration occurs when a large number of bacteria build up under the gums and then gets “pushed” into the blood supply by the action of chewing.
Here at Boulder’s Natural Animal, we recommend a FREE annual dental examination for your pet, even if it does not need to be vaccinated. Our trained staff will look at the condition of your pet’s teeth and gums and assess whether or nor a dental cleaning is necessary.
When we perfom a dental exam, we grade your pet’s teeth/gums on a scale of 1 through 5, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest level of dental disease. These assessments are made by evaluating the degree of gingival disease in your pet’s mouth. Click on the link below for descriptions and images of these dental grades.

At Boulder’s Natural Animal, we use only the safest and shortest acting anesthetic agents available to sedate your animal during their dental procedure. Additionally, our trained staff of technicians monitor your animal’s heart and blood pressure continuously during the procedure. We are attentive to the potential risks of anesthesia, and will make every effort possible to be certain that your animal has a smooth and rapid recovery. For this reason, we require a pre-dental anesthesia blood panel as well as the placement of an intravenous catheter for every patient that receives general anesthesia for dental scaling and oral surgery. Pain relievers will be administered prior to the dental as a preemptive way to reduce post-procedure discomfort. Oral medications will be prescribed for your pet if necessary to promote adequate healing.
Please call Boulder’s Natural Animal to set up a dental examination for your animal or with any questions you may have regarding this procedure.
