Anesthesia Free Dental Cleaning is a new service being offered by many vet clinics in Colorado. This service consists of the hand-scaling of tartar by a trained individual who uses only manual restraint on an animal during the cleaning process. The dental cleaning usually takes an hour or less.

Due to the lack of anesthesia or any other means of chemical restraint, individuals who have painful teeth or gums are not recommended for Anesthesia Free Dental Cleaning, but they may be a candidate for Twilight Dental Cleaning – A hand scaling with a minor level of sedation rather than full general anesthetic. It is recommended that animals with moderate to severe dental disease receive a general anesthetic agent for teeth cleaning as well as for any possible extractions.
