Puppy Care

Whether you are a new dog owner or experienced dog owner, getting a new puppy can be an exciting time, but certainly a lot of work! At Boulder’s Natural Animal Hospital, we are here to help your new puppy get off to a strong start. During your initial visit, we will perform a comprehensive preliminary examination to detect if your puppy has any potential health issues and to assess their overall current health. Your puppy’s first exam will include:

• A physical examination
• Vaccines customized for your puppy’s lifestyle
• Parasite screening and prevention
• Heartworm screening and prevention
• Diet and nutritional counseling
• Behavior and training recommendations

The puppy wellness exam is also the perfect time to ask us any questions you have regarding caring for your puppy such as diet and exercise, behavior issues, or house training. We will also discuss the importance of microchipping your new puppy to ensure that they return home safely if they are ever lost.

Microchipping

Just as vaccines protect your pet from disease and illness, microchips help keep your puppy safe if they are lost or stolen. The unique identifier in your pet’s microchip will help bring them home safely, providing shelters and animal hospitals with your contact information to reunite you with your pet.

Your Puppy’s First Visit

In preparation for your puppy’s first visit with us, it is helpful to bring the health information provided to you by the seller or shelter. We also ask that you bring a fresh stool sample, and bring your puppy on a leash or in a secure carrier.
